Your driver guide will welcome you on the quay side at the Cruise terminal in Marseille (MSC Meraviglia...Norwegian Spirit, Seabourn, Oceania, Costa, Royal Caribbean ship) or in your hotel lobby (Intercontinental, Radisson, Golden Tulip, Sofitel, New Hotel, Mercure, Le Pigonnet, la Villa Gallici, Renaissance in Aix en Provence and the best hotel in Provence, La Villa La Coste.)
Visit Aix-en-Provence ; discover the old town centre on foot, taking in some local sites like the Rotonde Fountain, la Place d’Albertas, la Place Richelme with its daily produce market, la Place de l’Hôtel de Ville (town hall) and its belfry, Saint Sauveur Cathedral, which was built over 12 centuries, la place des Trois Ormeaux, la Place des Prêcheurs, le Passage à Gard, le Cours Mirabeau and the Fontaine des Quatres Dauphins in the Mazarin Quarter. You will have the chance to sample some local specialities like "calissons" or the best Madeleines and macarons !
We will end the morning with a view of the famous mountain "The Sainte Victoire", which Cézanne was so captivated by that he painted it nearly 80 times!
Depart from Aix for La Ciotat, our second stop and the birth place of the provençale game of boules: la pétanque. We will see the Eden Theatre, where the first private screening of images by the Lumière brothers took place in 1895. Continuing along the seafront with a view of the magnificent bay, we will arrive at the old port, a stone's throw from where Monaco Marina has installed its shipyard for the maintenance and renovation of some of the world's most luxurious yachts. Finally, we will head away from La CIotat along the famous 'Route des Crêtes', a mountain road that hugs the coast line giving you spectacular views on the way to Cassis.
Free time for lunch* and shopping...
Depending on your wishes and the day's schedule you can have lunch in Aix-en-Provence, La Ciotat or Cassis. We have selection of recommended addresses to suit your requirements, from a tasty piece of pizza in Aix, to a restaurant nestled in a calanque, or a gastronomic experience, overlooking the sea.
Third port of call: Cassis. Cassis is a seaside town well-known for its stunning calanques (visit optional) and steep cliffs, including those of the Cap Canaille which are the highest in Europe. At its top nestles Cassis Castle overlooking the bay and old port. It was previously owned by the Michelin family but is now a luxury guest house.
Cassis also lends its name to the local dry white and rosé wines which marry so well with the mediterranean cuisine and, in particular, seafood. The first A.O.C. (Appellation d’origine contrôlée) of Cassis was awarded in 1936.
You will have time to stroll around the streets adjoining the old port, do a little shopping or simply make the most of the town centre beach.
During the afternoon we will head back to Marseille by the scenic Gineste road, La Corniche, Le Vallon des Auffes, stopping to visit Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica, and finally Marseille's Old Port.
17h00 : Return to the port and your ship or to your hotel, where we part company and our services end.
